“I don’t feel as I have to convince anyone. We are part of the energy transition.”
“A proper energy transition strategy involves a lot of work, energy, creativity, and persistence – but I think we’re well equipped to live up to it. Shareholders, the board, and my colleagues… I think everyone understands that it is now essential to be as proactive as possible when it comes to lowering emissions.
ESG has accelerated a journey we had already started and that will take us to energy with near-zero emissions. We are also seeing our partners willing to support us on that journey, from electric drilling to using biofuel on our platforms.
Going forward I also hope to see a more balanced debate, one that brings a sense of realism around the complexity of the energy transition. On the one hand we have the urgency of lowering greenhouse gas emissions, but on the other hand there’s a clear need for affordable, reliable, clean energy. Simply saying that we need to get rid of fossil fuels and fast forwarding 15 years isn’t going to happen.
It’s sometimes hard to get the message across that there’s more to the energy transition than simply turning off the gas…but we’ll get there!”
